Bachelor

A bachelor is said to be “jolly.” A slogan is superstitious in implication. It is quite unfounded. (Is the bachelor really “jolly” or is this description that of envy on the part of disillusioned married men?). Statistics show that the odds are against a bachelor’s felicity: his suicide rate is higher as a class ; he belongs among those with a higher rate of mental disturbances; he is more susceptible to disease [Why Are You Single? edited by H.
